Larry Nassar Sentenced to 175 Years in Prison

After Decades of Abuse, Larry Nassar Is Sentenced to 175 Years in Prison

After a difficult trial period that detailed over two decades of sexual abuse, on Jan. 24, former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State doctor Larry Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison. Judge Rosemarie Aquilina delivered the sentencing after Nassar pleaded guilty to multiple criminal sexual conduct charges.

Over the last two years, more than 150 women have come forward and said the doctor abused them. Victims include Olympic athletes such as Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, and Gabby Douglas. In December 2016, the FBI also seized over 37,000 images and videos of child pornography from his home.

During the sentencing, Aquilina said, "As much as it was my honor and privilege to hear the sister survivors, it is my honor and privilege to sentence you," adding, "Sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again. You have done nothing to control those urges, and anywhere you walk, destruction will occur."
