Karina Banda always knew she wanted to work in television. When she was a little girl, she pointed to the TV and told her parents, "I'm going to be there." Throughout her life, she prepared for it, and when she was 18, she landed her first TV job. She was there for two years, until she got an opportunity to work for Univision. She took it and moved to Sacramento, where she really became an expert in her craft. The network saw this and offered her a role at the beloved show El Gordo y la Flaca. She comes up with her story ideas, writes the story, records voiceovers in an audio booth, and sits down with her editor to put all the pieces together. The process takes hours, and it all goes into a one-minute piece. However, her work doesn't go unnoticed, as she's won six Emmy Awards, which further proves she's meant to do this job.
Karina never stops, and her new challenge has been hosting the podcast Juntos We Shine, where she took over Andrea Chediak's spot after Andrea went on maternity leave. For Karina, this experience has been completely different, as she's had to work in English, which is her second language. But she's proven that she can do anything she sets her mind to, becoming a great example of an unstoppable woman who's committed to bringing positive stories of our community to the forefront and highlighting incredible people who deserve a chance in the spotlight.
POPSUGAR and Univision partnered with Target to highlight change-makers who are bringing joy and positivity to their communities through a new bilingual podcast, Juntos We Shine. Check it out to see Karina in action, bringing her charm and likability to such a beautiful initiative.
