Tom Hiddleston visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night, and team, he dropped a bombshell. Jimmy kicked off the interview with Marvel chat. More specifically, he asked Hiddleston about his upcoming TV series with Disney+ — centered around his Thor character, Loki — which starts production in 2020.
Although he wouldn't reveal any more details (Marvel is good at keeping a tight lid on these things), Hiddleston was happy to reveal that he originally auditioned for the role of Thor, which famously, is played by Chris Hemsworth. "Basically, at the time, they were looking for less well-established actors, so that the audience wouldn't have an association [with them]," he said. "The remit was, if you're over six foot and you've got blonde hair, then you could come and have a pop at it."
Now, this is where it gets better, because Fallon has a few friends over at Marvel who handed over one of Hiddleston's original audition tapes, and FYI, it's even better than you're picturing. After Fallon showed the clip, which was met with applause from the audience, Hiddleston said, "Thank you, you really are too kind . . . I think we can all agree that they cast the right actor." You can view the full interview (and the clip of Hiddleston dressed up as Thor) above, and you'll want to because he also sheds a real tear over Baby Yoda's unbearable cuteness. That may sound out of left field, but it's all you need to know; just watch it.
