The Witcher Final Trailer
It's been a year since we first learned that Henry Cavil signed on for Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher, and now we finally have a proper look at how it will all take shape. After all the sneak peeks on social media, multiple shots of star Henry Cavill rocking one hell of a silver wig as Geralt of Rivia, and one very scintillating teaser, we now have two official trailers to whip us into a frenzy.
In the first trailer we met Geralt, a sorcerer, outcast, and cold-blooded killer who's tasked with ridding the world of monsters. The series is described by Netflix as being an "epic tale of fate and family," where the real monsters that Geralt faces often prove to be people closest to him. Eventually, he crosses paths with a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, and the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together. There's lots of fighting, intense glances, and a bathtub scene that we'll probably keep stored in our brains forever. In the second trailer — released by Netflix on Dec. 12 — it's more of the same, with suspenseful stares, armies assembling for battle, and fierce, sword-wielding women, all with the backdrop of sweeping landscapes.
The TV adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels, which also spawned an insanely popular video game of the same name, has Lauren Schmidt Hissrich — who's produced everything from The Defenders to Parenthood — on board as showrunner and has the cast all lined up. Yennefer will be played by Wanderlust and Sherwood alum Anya Chalotra, while Into the Badlands actress Freya Allan is taking on the role of Ciri. The series will be released on Dec. 20, right in time to get in some serious binging over the holidays.
