Skin Gym Healing Crystal Comb
The crystal craze has gotten so big, now even combs are made from the beautiful stones. Many of these combs made out of the pink-hued rose quartz are quite pricey, so we consulted NYC-based hairstylist Devin Toth of Salon SCK to find out if this trend is worth the investment.
According to Toth, the benefits of crystal combs are mostly emotional ones. "They are popular because the glamorous crystal materials, such as rose quartz or jade, can create a luxurious and calming experience," said Toth. The combs are undoubtedly beautiful, but may not do much in terms of helping the health of your hair.
"There is no evidence that crystal combs actually untangle your hair any better [than a regular one]," he said. However, if the comb is still sending your heart soaring with dreams of an Instagram-ready vanity, it may be worth the investment, especially if you plan to keep it for a long time.
"[You can] think of them as a keepsake or heirloom. As a hairdresser with a baby boy, I thought long and hard about which brush we could get our son that would last him a lifetime," Toth said (before noting that he ultimately went with a small Mason Pearson brush). If your heart is really set on getting a crystal comb, it may be worth it to you to have the beautiful item in your possession. Plus, if you love the item, you're more likely to use it.
"If [the comb] is more intriguing to you, then you're more likely to use it frequently," he said. "[This means] you'll stimulate your scalp more often, which stimulates blood circulation and is believed to increase hair growth"
